ADAM Audio H200 Headphones – How I Use Them in My Studio
ADAM Audio recently sent me their new H200 closed-back headphones to check out, and I've been using them for pretty much everything I do in the studio — producing music, recording Deeper Shades Of House, listening to promos, and during my Promo Tuesdays live streams.
After using them for a few weeks, I made a video showing how I've been using them and what I think about them.
Comfortable Even After Hours of Listening
Right out of the box, the first thing I noticed was how solid the H200s feel. They're sturdy, they feel professional, and they're very comfortable.
Bringing back my Promo Tuesdays live streams gave me a pretty good way to really test them. I go through pretty much all the new promos I've received, which can mean four or five hours of listening. The H200s sounded really good and, more importantly, they never became tiring.
One feature I also really like is that you can connect the cable to either the left or right side. My interface sits to my left, so that's where I plug them in. It sounds like a small thing, but it keeps the cable from constantly running across my body when I'm working.
ADAM Audio Headphone Utility
The other part I was really curious about was the software that comes with the H200s.
The ADAM Audio Headphone Utility works as an Audio Unit or VST plugin, so I loaded it up in Logic Pro and tried it while working on one of my tracks.
The Externalization feature makes the extreme left/right separation you normally get with headphones feel much more like you're sitting in a room listening to speakers. There's also a Pure setting for a more neutral response when mixing and ADAM Audio's UNR setting, which adds a little more punch and color.
I go through all of that in the video and you can see my reactions while I'm trying the software.
After using the H200s for the past few weeks, I can definitely recommend them. They sound great, they're comfortable even after hours of listening, and I really like having the software available when I'm working on music.
