Back for the first Eyes Down of 2006, and we’ve got some major changes planned. First off we’re pleased to announce that from here on in, there’ll be no more guests at Eyes Down. Over the last 5 years we’ve been lucky enough to have some of the best DJ’s in the world drop by, but the time has come to move things forward, and from now on the residents will be taking control!!

The cornerstone of Eyes Down has always been the residents Kelvin Brown and Jon-K. Their obsessive dedication to discovering new music has led to Eyes Down’s ever-broadening and changing music policy. They’ve consistently eschewed the whims and trends of the music industry, instead taking in anything they find groundbreaking and exiting. This forward thinking approach has led the to receive increasing acclaim, regularly Djing across the country, including Lights Down Low and Scuba in Sheffield, The Magnet in Liverpool, Jigsaw music in Birmingham, the Electric Souls and Fat city Records events, Whistlebump in London as well as spots in Barcelona and across Europe. Kelvin has provided guest mixes for Benji B’s Deviation show, and played live on Gilles Peterson’s show on Radio One. They have also been awarded City Life Magazine’s DJs of the year award.


Some of the most memorable nights we’ve had at Eyes Down have been the residents only nights, so it only seemed appropriate that 5 years in we should take the bold step and keep it that way on a permanent basis. This is an incredibly big move for us, we’re hoping to eschew the flavour of the month mentality, and clamour to book the guests who pull the biggest crowds or who are likely to get the most column inches regardless of the quality of the music they play. Instead this gives us an opportunity to focus on what we feel is truly most important at Eyes Down, playing music we feel passionate about, be it brand new or 40 years old, regardless of what’s the latest big thing.

Fear not, we’ve not abandoned guests altogether. We’re planning to do a very small number of one off parties over the next 12 months, focusing on styles of music, and brining over people who’ve has a massive influence on the music we play and listen to,
