morning/good day/good evening

time difference is crazy, the download problems that we are experiencing in SA is mostly the show downloading up to 20 min and the size of the download does not exceed 20meg.... connecting through cable on DSL on line speeds of between 512k and 4m.

PS: some of us in SA are unable to donate or buy DSoH merchandise...Cards this is side are not "PayPal Friendly"

Is there some other way of donating??

To keep up the good stuff it might be an idea to have some sort of monthly subscription without benefits
Let's say in packages of $1,$2,$3,$4 or $5 a month orso.

If many people take these small subscription you'll soon have your monthly fees covered! Subscriptions are ideal for lazy ppl (like me) that enjoy the shows every week in 1 click but are too lazy to keep donating manually

Just a thought.

As for the downloads, they are solid now!
I use firefox and before it seemed as if they were downloaded completely but were between 58-64mb in size. No error messages or such.. just 'finished downloading file' (but not the total size of 68.6mb)

could you give me an example on when you downloaded the show .. I can't do much with general information like you've given me .. I need as many details from as many people as possible and also need to know if the problem is still going on at the moment after I changed some settings on the server.

re: paypal
paypal accepts any major credit card. Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover Card so I am not sure what you mean they are not "PayPal friendly"? Could you elaborate on that, please

Great idea on the monthly subscription but it would still have to go through Paypal though do you have any other idea on how I could collect donations?

re: download problem.. it looks like a timed out connection. Could you tell me a bit more (Ideally answer some of the questions in the original post to allow me to analyze the problem better, please?)

mmh.. i have no experience with setting up a (montly) subscription via Paypal

but did find something about it on their site: here and here

And if ppl do care about a something in return for a subscription you can always use the ego-boost-payment. At some sites they put stars behind your username to show your donations. like this here

As for the download problems... there is nothing more to tell
But I just re-downloaded the last 4 shows (both hours) and they were fine..
So whatever you did.. it seems to have worked

Problems solved on our side when using GoogleChrome FireFox and Opera,but still intermitent when using IE..me and my buddies don't reali use Credit cards,rather debit cards! PS i dig your dance moves on show #308 stream..

In regards to the high bandwidth issues. You may want to cut back on the video streaming of your sessions. Streaming video can strain the through put for some people. On the podcast pages the video starts right away so it may be the situation where people are letting the video run while downloading and doing other stuff all at the same time.

The video streaming is a cool idea however you may want to look into an alternate means of streaming your videos. One popular example is youtube, but I'm sure there are others out there. But at the very least you can off load that potential bandwidth hog to another site.

There may be some other applets or embedded media that may be causing people some problem while downloading.

Just through out some ideas.

even if the stream is coming from another server it might still be good to prevent it from auto playing..
as it doesn't mix very well with my winamp playing the dsoh mixes when i'm browsing

My guess is more people forget the video stream will start automatically and wonder why there is bad mixing going on when browsing the dsoh website

I wish I could recommend a good EFT type of system.. but just from past experience, Paypal is a huge pain in the ascot... hidden fees everywhere... I also forgot to update the expiration date on a credit card of mine, that was linked to Paypal... they give you a window to update the info.. If you happen to miss the email reminder, they BAN YOUR CARD FOR LIFE.

They are a complete joke

regarding video and bandwidth..
none of the video streaming is hosted on my server, so the only true thing could be ppl with slow connections having it play in the background while trying to download he show... I've turned off autoplay for that matter.

rawd.. re: paypal.. I've been using them very very successfully for over 4 years now for all kinds of transactions and haven' had any problems whatsoever. You might find their fee model on the recipients side questionable but as you mentioned yourself, there are no alternatives for donations at the moment!

And just to make it clear, there are NO costs or fees involved for anyone who wants to donate but the amount you decide to donate!
